Märklin 37983 - Berkshire 2-8-4 Steam Locomotive, Southern Pacific

Southern Pacific's Berkshire 2-8-4 no. 3505, the 'Coffin' variant with its distinctive U-shaped feed-water heater across the smokebox front, modelled as it ran in the second half of the 1940s (Era III). A high-performance motor with flywheel sits in the boiler and drives four axles, three of them through the coupling rods, with traction tyres fitted. The mfx+ decoder brings the locomotive to life: steam exhaust that follows the throttle, whistle, bell, brakes, air and water pumps, injectors, sanding, safety valve, generator, and coal being shovelled with the firebox flickering behind it. Headlights and cab lighting are digitally switched using maintenance-free warm-white and red LEDs, a buffer capacitor carries it over dead spots, and the speed-dependent smoke generator is fitted at the factory. Engineer and fireman are seated in the cab, and the close coupling between locomotive and tender is adjustable.
